Measuring the Hubble function with standard candle clustering

چکیده
Supernova Ia magnitude surveys measure the dimensionless luminosity distance $H_{0}D_{L}$. However, from distances alone one cannot obtain quantities like $H(z)$ or dark energy equation of state, unless further cosmological assumptions are imposed. Here we show that by measuring power spectrum density contrast and peculiar velocities supernovae can estimate also $H(z)/H_{0}$ regardless background linearly perturbed cosmology galaxy-matter bias. This method, dubbed Clustering Standard Candles (CSC) yields redshift distortion parameter $\beta(k,z)$ biased matter in a model-independent way. We forecast an optimistic (pessimistic) LSST may be able to constrain 5-13% (9-40%) bins $\Delta z=0.1$ up at least $z=0.6$.

The Standard Candle Method for Type II Supernovae and the Hubble Constant
The " standard candle method " for Type II plateau supernovae produces a Hubble diagram with a dispersion of 0.3 mag, which implies that this technique can produce distances with a precision of 15%. Using four nearby supernovae with Cepheid distances I find H 0 (V)=75±7, and H 0 (I)=65±12.
متن کاملPopulation II standard candle calibration of the Fundamental Plane of groups and clusters of galaxies and the Hubble Constant
Hubble’s constant (H0) is calculated using the Fundamental Plane (FP) relation between half-light radius, surface brightness, and velocity dispersion for groups and clusters of galaxies. The Tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB), a standard candle based on the constant luminosity of low-mass stars at helium core flash, is used to calibrate the cluster FP. TRGB stars yield the distances to the near...
متن کاملMeasuring the Redshift Evolution of Clustering: the Hubble Deep Field South ?
We present an analysis of the evolution of galaxy clustering in the redshift interval 0 ≤ z ≤ 4.5 in the HDF-South. The HST optical data are combined with infrared ISAAC/VLT observations, and photometric redshifts are used for all the galaxies brighter than IAB ≤ 27.5. The clustering signal is obtained in different redshift bins using two different approaches: a standard one, which uses the bes...
متن کاملMeasuring the Hubble Constant with the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich Effect
Combined with X-ray imaging and spectral data, observations of the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect (SZE) can be used to determine direct distances to galaxy clusters. These distances are independent of the extragalactic distance ladder and do not rely on clusters being standard candles or rulers. Observations of the SZE have progressed from upper limits to high signal-to-noise ratio detections and im...
متن کاملMeasuring and Modelling the Redshift Evolution of Clustering: the Hubble Deep Field North
The evolution of galaxy clustering from z = 0 to z ≃ 4.5 is analyzed using the angular correlation function and the photometric redshift distribution of galaxies brighter than IAB ≤ 28.5 in the Hubble Deep Field North. The reliability of the photometric redshift estimates is discussed on the basis of the available spectroscopic redshifts, comparing different codes and investigating the effects ...
